Scan: "A surge of power is headed your way" - Konami poster. RBFS.

RBFS. Really Big Fcunikg Scan!

Game Ads

Behold! 14 megs! 3504x4745! 300 dpi! It's about time I did an actual scan.

The truth of the matter is that scanning anything larger than US Letter size involves a large format flatbed scanner and it's a major pain. I have this old Mustek A3 USB scanner, which is a monster of a device and doesn't always work on Win 7 64-bit because it wasn't designed to do so. Anyways, I've spent Last two days tinkering with my PC, cleaning the registry and uninstalling anything Mustek-related. Finally, I got it working!

This poster was included with Contra III The Alien Worlds, a Super Nintendo game. Poster can be downloaded here. Enjoy!

Accessories get no love. DMG-02 Earbuds

Why is it so darn hard to find decent quality images of Game Boy earbuds? Remember the DMG-02? In US they were bundled with the original Game Boy. So, it got me thinking what would US retail packaging look like if it existed?

Vector illustration: Super Mario Land 6 Golden Coins

[caption id="" align="aligncenter" width="1181"]Video Game Artwork Super Mario Land 6 Golden Coins World Map - in vector[/caption]

Mario Land games were my favorite on Game Boy. Good game play squeezing the best of what limited handheld could muster on dot matrix display. Although the first SML game looks incredibly simplistic by today's standards, artwork alone made me want to play it. Over and over again. I can't even count how many AA's I've wasted during countless sessions. Feeling nostalgic for no apparent reason I dug deep into my HDD and found Super Mario Land 6 Golden coins world map.

Most of you who follow this blog know that I got this strange affinity for Nintendo-style artwork and vectors. So without much thinking I decided to see what it would look like vectorized. I'm not completely happy with it, but you'll be the judge of that. Feel free to download the SVG, PDF or EPS from Video Game Artwork directory Video Game Artwork. Oh! and If you happen to do anything creative with it, lemme know!

Artwork: Remastered Super Metroid poster with entirely new logo

[caption id="" align="aligncenter" width="601"]Super Metroid Poster by gamescanner.org Super Metroid remastered poster[/caption]

So, I was able to find the actual artwork for Super Metroid without anything on it. Great! What a find! I moved onto creating brand new logo in vector and applied to it. Sorry it's only 2000 pixels wide. Original image is only 72dpi and enlarging if any further makes it look rather grainy.

BTW, you can check out my flickr page. Ive uploaded some new stuff.

Many Faces of Mario #3: Mario & Peach making a snowman

Have no idea where I got it from. Christmas card perhaps? Kinda funny, the snowman is sad & missing a carrot-nose.

Many Faces of Mario #2 - Safari Suit Mario (Mario's Picross 2, JPN)

Ever since laying my fat & greasy hands on that thing known today as Game Boy, I've been enchanted by the art style of Mario & Friends characters and their world. It was so very different from what had seen before. Over two decades later my affinity towards Mario remains the same.

OK, enuff bull, here's my quick vector take on the little guy:

Scan: Super Mario Bros 3 original watercolor artwork

This just in: A viewtiful watercolor artwork from Super Famicom game manual, page #29 if my mind serves me right. I can look at if for hours. Pure eye candy. Every time I see such artwork, I keep asking myself: Who's master hand is behind it? I know it's someone from Nintendo's art department, but they gotta have a name! Right? Anyways, enjoy!

GameScanner.org - my game collection

I gotta be having a moment of weakness. I'm posting a (rather lame) picture of my game collection.

[caption id="attachment_976" align="aligncenter" width="800"]gamescanner.org video game collection GameScanner.org - part of my game stash[/caption]

But why now & why at all? Dunno. Just felt like doing so.

I guess that's because I've been talking to my pops earlier today about his books.

My dad is an artist and he also loves reading books. Over the years he's amassed over 5000 books. Imagine that!

Once in a while mom makes fun of him saying that when some people got drunk after payday, he he went to a bookstore on a book-bying binge. So as you can imagine, growing up I've always wanted to follow his footsteps. The only thing I didn't know back then, that I'll end up buying video games, instead.

Now, after roughly 25+ years of collecting I'm about half-way there. Sadly, this wall reflects only part of my games. There just isn't enough enough room. But that's perfectly OK. What I need now is a bigger house.

As a side note, people keep asking me what's the most expensive video game I own? My answer? Well, I do own few rare games, but the most expensive thing I own are the memories of countless hours spent with friends playing them. Pre-internet era. You dig?

... come to think of it, the most expensive thing I own isn't a game at all, but a digital file of Super Nintendo Game Packaging. It was hard to get. I'll post some pics soon.

Many Faces of Mario - Captain N cereal sticker

Captain N stickers. Another piece of Mario artwork that's been sitting dormant on my drive.

Captain N Super Mario Bros Cereal sticker

I have no idea why I have a penchant for Mario. Guess I'll be stuck with him for the rest of my days. Sounds like fun. I hope to live old age and still wear Nintendo stuff. Yes, it's that bad.

Anyways (I'm stubborn and do say it wrong on purpose) drop me a line if it'll end up on Your site. Credit would much appreciated.

Behold the power of N64. I just love artist's take on the console making it look all spaceship-y. Those blinking lights, man! Every time I glance at some interesting game artwork I always ask myself - who's behind it? How was it commissioned? Where is the original?

This would make for one awesome wallpaper.

Credit: special thanks goes to http://martianoddity.wordpress.com/ for contributing the scan and allowing me to post & host it.

Many Faces of Mario - Safari Suit Mario

This one I got off eBay from some seller I can't remember the name of. All I did was removed the background & some clean-up.
